#Network Rail will go through a major improvement scheme to take containers from Southampton Port to the Midlands.

This scheme is to enable 9’6″ (high cube) containers to be transported efficiently on standard rail wagons from Southampton to the West Coast Main Line at Nuneaton.

Associated British Ports (ABP) will be seeking to recover their investment and DP World Southampton has agreed to do this on their behalf through the introduction of an infrastructure charge that will be effected on every import container via Southampton currently leaving the port via road or rail.  Current advice is that the cost will be under £5 per 20ft container.
