OUR HISTORY

The Abels Moving Story

Since 1958, Abels Moving Services have been providing the highest quality service and customer care in International shipping, home removals and storage. Our in-house moving teams are experts in moving antiques and specialist items such as pianos, grandfather clocks, and fine art alongside day-to-day household items and furniture. We always deliver the utmost care and attention, ensuring everything runs smoothly and guaranteeing our customer’s peace of mind – this is the art of moving.

1958

The company is founded

Delivering goods to and from salerooms

1962

The Safe Removal Company

The company names itself THE SAFE REMOVAL COMPANY under the management of the Abel Family, father Noel and son Tony.

1971

Abels of Watton

The removal business is renamed ABELS OF WATTON and 81/2 acres of land purchased in Watton Norfolk

1981

A Royal Wedding

Abels is proud to move all the wedding presents for Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

1982

Acquistion of Percy Wigg, Lowestoft

1984

New storage facility opened

A new purpose built facility is completed in Huntingdon 18,000 sq ft.

1986

Acquisition of Fahies of Colchester

Including warehouse, vehicles and staff.

1988

The Royal Warrant

Abels Moving Services is awarded the Royal Warrant to HM the Queen for Removals and Storage Services

1989

Opening of new offices in Brandon, Suffolk

The opening of this new warehouse provides an additional 35,000 sq ft of storage and 4,000 sq ft office space

2004

FIDI FAIM accreditation

Abels Moving Services achieves FIDI FAIM accreditation, providing our customers with the reassurance that they are in safe hands

2005

Large tech

Abels moves Concorde engine and undercarriage to El Paso, USA.

2006

Abels move an iconic piece of British history

Abels move a Spitfire to the Imperial War Museum in Duxford

2008

Sustainable targets reached

Abels receives a Certificate of Registration under the Control of Pollution from the Environmental Agency for controlled waste

2013

Historic fleet updated

Bedford MLD “O-type” box truck built 1941 was purchased and painted in Abels historical livery.

Relocation of Bishop of Sussex

Relocation of Bishop of Sussex to Brussels and delivery through a window

Corporate Relocation

Cambridge Display Technology relocation to their new premises

2015

Harmony Relocation formed

UTS and UniGroup end their alliance and UTS changes brand to Harmony Relocation and Philip Pertoldi (Abels MD) voted Chairman.

2015

FFE services in London

Agreement signed to store and deliver rental and new furniture for leading London interior designers.

2015

VIP move

Relocation from the former home of Sir Winston Churchills during The Blitz for a VIP client completed over three weeks.

2016

ISO 14001

ISO 14001 for Environmental Management System attained

2016

Royal Warrant upheld

Royal Warrant renewed for a further 5 year period.

2017

Updates to historic fleet

ERF truck built in 1962 and an Eagle trailer built in 1950 were bought to complement our historic fleet.

2017

ISO 18001

ISO 18001 for Occupational Health & Safety Management System attained

2018

Acquisition of Sheppards Removals & Storage of Norwich.

2021

East Anglia Air Ambulance (EAAA)

Abels undertook the relocation of EAAA’s support offices, with the first phase into store, followed a second phase of moving them into their new premises.

2022

Renewal of The Royal Warrant

In recognition of Abels continuing to provide Removals and Storage Services of the highest quality to the Royal Palaces.

Potters Bar Warehouse

Abels opened a new state-of-the-art warehouse in north London, Potters Bar.

VIP Move

Scotland’s largest castle was packed up and relocated south of the border .
