Abels Moving Services have been advised due the earthquake in Hanmer Springs in New Zealand back in November 2016 this has closed the Port of Wellington in New Zealand for up to 6 months.

You will no doubt be aware that as a result of the recent earthquake that effected the north island of New Zealand the port of Wellington has ceased operations until further notice whilst repairs are be carried out.

It is expected that repairs may take up to 6 months.

As a result no carrier is accepting bookings for Wellington. Containers destined for Wellington will require to be routed via Napier thus incurring additional on-carry costs Napier to Wellington either by rail or road. Napier is over 300km away from the Port of Wellington.

The carriers are informing us that they will not be issuing a thru OBL for Wellington via Napier therefore when a Wellington destination is required, this requires additional costs for the on-carry from Napier to Wellington, which will need to be added to customers moving costs.

This situation will also effect any shipments sent via New Plymouth for destination in Wellington.

For customers moving to or from Wellington in New Zealand, please call your Abels customer liaison on their direct line or call head office on +44(0)1842 816600 or email shipping@abels.co.uk
