For customers planning on moving to the Philippines, Abels Moving Services have been updated by our agents about a new law effecting the movement of Household Goods in Commercial Trucks within Manila.
The city of Manila, Philippines has enacted a law banning daytime use of commercial trucks including those transporting household goods cargo.
The purpose of the ban is to reduce traffic congestion between 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. We expect delays to occur at the port and airport of Manila and will require packing, loading and delivering of household good shipments within the city of Manila to occur outside of peak times.
It’s uncertain what impact the scheduling crews during off peak hours will have on the household good crew labour market and if additional costs will be incurred. The same potential concerns can also affect the local trucking industry. Additional charges, if incurred, will need to be passed along to the shipping customer or national account.
The truck ban is scheduled to begin on Feb. 24, 2014. Many foreign chambers of commerce, as well as associations representing the trucking industry and importers/exporters are protesting this measure.
