Moving to Argentina – Customs Changes

Abels have been advised though our Agents in Argentina about changes made and planned by Customs Authorities. These changes will have implications on moving items to Argentina.

Customers are advised that the Argentine Authorities are now only allowing single importation of items to the country.

By explanation this means that should a customer wish to send a container of items and then a second smaller consignment via Airfreight this is now not allowed.

Additionally if a customer needs 2 containers for moving to Argentina then these must be on the same vessel with the same bill of lading.

At present customs and local ports are currently presenting congestion delays of between 2 and 4 weeks. This will cause additional charges to customers for port charges and demurrage charges along with storage charges.

For all customs clearances in Argentina all required paperwork is required 10 working days before the shipment arrives in Argentina.

Additionally Boxes that are Packed by Owner are now not accepted into the country.

There is also planned procedures to ensure that the declared number on the seal and weight for consignment then match that supplied by the origin moving company. It is planned that when cargo arrives it will be weighed and boxes will be counted. This procedure is expected to take another 2 months to be approved by Argentine Customs and is likely to cause when implemented, higher port and airport charges.
