The Republic of South Sudan – The Newest Nation in the World

The Republic of South Sudan – The World’s Newest Nation

The world’s newest nation South Sudan (officially recognised as the Republic of South Sudan) is a country in East Africa. Its capital and largest city with a last estimated population in 2006 of 250,000 is Juba, South Sudan which sites on the White Nile. The landlocked country is bordered by Ethiopia to the east; Kenya, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the south; the Central African Republic to the west; and Sudan to the north.

As of 9 July 2011, the day of independence, the process of official international recognition (including United Nations) has commenced.

Abels Moving Service will continue to work with customers wishing to relocate to Sudan.

A Shipping line Abels Moving Services work regularly with for African shipments – Maersk AP Moeller – have advised that they continue to accept to South Sudan as before the independence on two key matters:
– The only location with Through Bill of Lading acceptance is Juba, South Sudan. (so as Abels, we can only ship to this location)
– The shipment travels via Mombasa, Kenya.

Juba is one of the fastest growing cities in East Africa and is located only a few hundred kilometers from the Ugandan border. Due to its geographical location, all cargo is routed via the port of Mombasa (Kenya) from where it is trucked via Uganda to Juba.

The transit time from Felixstowe, UK to Mombasa Kenya is 39 days. Then from Mombasa and through Uganda to Juba terminal, South Sudan is approximately 12 days.

The normal general containers can be obtained 20ft GP, 40ft GP, 40ft High Cube. Currently no reefer containers are available due to lack of reefer infrastructure.
