Moving to USA – Congestion at Southern California Ports

  • News

For customers planning on moving to the USA, Abels Moving Services have been made aware of Congestion at Southern California Ports. The congestion is at both the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

The port of Los Angeles and the port of Long Beach handle around 40% of all imports to the United States.

The Congestion at Southern California Ports (the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach) has now reached a critical stage. We have been informed that there are delays of several days for vessels to enter these ports.

Hapag-Lloyd has informed Abels Moving Services that several container ships are anchoring off the harbour and are waiting in line to berth. Vessels continue to be delayed due the on-going congestion.

The cause of the delay appears to have occurred due to an increase of around 10% in volume of traffic though the ports during the September period. Other factors include a quicker increase in higher volume larger vessels using the ports along with a shortage of trailers to take containers to and from the ports.

It is expected that the congestion at Southern California ports will reduce as the peak of Christmas imports has completed during the early part of November.
