Delays Experienced at Shanghai Port China due to a Shortage of Containers and Customs Warehousing Reaching Capacity

Delays advised in Shanghai Port China due to a shortage of shipping containers and because Customs warehousing capacity has been exceed.

We have been made aware of the following by our partners in Shanghai China;

Outbound shipments at Shanghai are currently being delayed due to a backlog at customs and a shortage of containers at port.

The bonded warehouse used for the clearance of household goods has reached its absolute capacity. This is now delaying the customs clearance process.

Outbound shipments are usually cleared within five working days. However, a backlog can lead to further delays of three to four working days.

In addition, there is a shortage of containers suitable for household goods shipments at Shanghai port, leading to further delays at origin.

Goods are being held in export warehouses whilst suitable containers are sourced, however this is adding double handling costs to some shipments.

No delays have currently been advised for shipments to Shanghai – containers that are going into the country. If this situation should change Abels will update accordingly.
