Moving to New York – Maher Terminal Container Congestion Continues

For those planning on moving to New York, we have been provided with information concerning continued Container Congestion being experienced at the Maher container terminal in New York.

The congestion and container delays at the Maher terminal in New York follows glitches caused by a new operating system at the terminal. This is affecting Maher Terminals (New York-New Jersey, USA) as well as adjacent terminals which are still experiencing significant port congestion.

The congestion is affecting the transportation of containers to and from the port. What typically may have been a short wait is now taking about six hours. These delays could cause additional costs including demurrage charges for containers and chassis. Please expect, on average, two additional days of delay at approximately $125 per day due to this congestion.

Maher terminal released a statement this week that operations were under control and they would be able to handle all operations when the volume is back to normal; however, the congestion is expected to continue until mid-September.
