Moving to India – Delays due to Riots

Abels have been advised though our Agents about the critical situation in India in January 2018.

There are riots that are delaying shipment in the Mumbai and Pune area of India.

The riots which started on 02nd January 2018 were between two communities, the Dalits and the Marathas in Pune. Lakhs of Dalits gathered in the city to attend an event to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the battle of Bhima Koregaon on 01st January 2018, which was followed by violent clashes between Dalit and Maratha groups, resulting in riot situation, death of at least one person and injuries to several others.

The situation has also spread to certain parts of Mumbai such as Chembur, Mulund and Thane over the last 24 hours. Currently the local police officials have asked all offices in Pune to be closed till the situation settles down. Many shops, offices, hotels and roads in Mumbai also have been asked to shut down to avoid the ripple effect of the ongoing tension in Pune.

The riots are effecting imports and exports in and out of India, and delays are expected till the riots stop.
