Cambridge City Foodbank exists to help people in crisis. Donations of food are collected from caring individuals and organisations. In their warehouse the food is sorted into boxes and each box has a variety of food for three day’s emergency supply. There are boxes for individuals and boxes for families of all sizes. Over 4,500 people benefitted from food provided by the food bank in the past year.
Over 100 organisations around Cambridge, who are in contact with the needy, identify cases where people have no food or money and give them a foodbank voucher. The most common cause is benefit delays or changes but other causes are loss of job, debt or low income. The voucher can be taken to one of seven foodbank distribution centres, mostly in local churches, where it can be exchanged for a food parcel. Cambridge City Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust Network.
