Moving to Bahrain – Vehicle Import Restrictions

  • News

For customers planning on moving to Bahrain, Abels Moving Services have been made aware by our shipping agents that as from the 1st May 2016 new restrictions apply to the import of cars.

The news of the restrictions was mentioned back in December 2015 by The Director of Licensing Affairs Department in the General Directorate of Traffic (GDT) in Bahrain, Lt-Colonel Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa. He stated that starting from May 1st 2016, no vehicle imported from abroad will be registered if it is more than five years old.

The age limit applies to private cars, private passenger transport vehicles and motorbikes while a ten year limit will be imposed on private cargo cars, locomotives, trailers and semi-trailers.

The decision is in compliance with clause 98 of the Executive Code of the Traffic Law 23/2014. It should be noted that Classic and historic automobiles and cars with special specifications will be exempted from the limit.
