Update on Shipment Congestion at Canadian Ports: What You Need to Know

  • News

We are closely monitoring the situation at Canadian ports and are pleased to inform you that all ports are now fully operational. The Canadian government has directed all striking parties to resume operations and enter binding arbitration to address unresolved issues. While this is a positive development, it may take several weeks to fully restore supply chain fluidity.

Our shipments will recommence as soon as the situation stabilises. If you are planning a move to Canada—especially to Vancouver, Montreal, or Toronto—please contact Abels experts to discuss your service options.

Canadian Port Congestions

We have been informed by our partners and agents in Canada regarding ongoing strike activity that has led to closures at the Ports of Vancouver, nearby Prince Rupert, and most of Montreal. As a result, inland rail service to and from these ports is also impacted, causing significant delays. The inland Port of Toronto, which relies on these rail connections, will also face delays.

For customers planning to move to Canada, especially to cities such as Montreal, Vancouver, or Toronto, we recommend considering storage solutions with Abels prior to shipment. This will allow time for port congestion to ease, reducing potential disruptions.

The Port of Halifax on Canada’s East Coast remains an operational alternative; however, due to the increased traffic, it may also lead to delays. Our team is closely monitoring the situation and has proactively reached out to clients with shipments en route to the affected ports.

For any queries or concerns, particularly if you’re moving to Montreal, Vancouver, or Toronto, please contact your Move Coordinator, who will be pleased to provide assistance and guidance.
