Your favourite Rolls Royce Silver Phantom limo is in the wrong country and you need it tomorrow, so who are you going to call?
Spare a thought for this tricky challenge faced by a Russian businessman. Moving his brand new custom built Rolls Royce Silver Phantom from England to Monaco to pick him up from the airport the following afternoon, but without the car clocking up too many miles on the way.
To meet this tough assignment, delivering against the clock this very large, not to mention valuable car at one million Euros, in pristine condition, he turned to Abels Moving Services, the only remover with a Royal Warrant from H M the Queen.
Neil Pertoldi, General Manager for International Services , commented: ”One of the issues of moving the Rolls Royce was its size. It had been custom modified for ultimate comfort and the highest security. Stretched to 7m in length, and weighing in at 3.2 tonnes. However, we have a fleet of purpose built air-suspension trucks which can safely accommodate such a load.
“Using a two-man driver team allowed us to drive almost none stop whilst maintaining legal driving regulations. After the initial call late Tuesday afternoon, collection was planned from the company who had modified the car on the Wednesday morning and delivery after 850miles, a ferry crossing and customs entry in Monaco Thursday afternoon. Of course we delivered the gleaming Rolls safely and in good time for it to pick up its new owner.”
Abels Moving Services has moved a wide variety of unusual items. Neil explained: “Also related, (although Rolls Royce the aero engine manufacturer is a separate company to the car maker), we shipped a whole Concorde engine, a Rolls Royce/SNECMA Olympus 593 Turbo Jet, weighing six tonnes from the UK to Texas, this was accompanied by the plane’ s undercarriage, which weighed some three tonnes!
“On a similar theme we have moved a Spitfire, powered by the famous Rolls Royce Merlin engine, from Duxford to New Zealand, later also shipping numerous spare parts as the Spitfire crashed when it ran out of fuel whilst in flight!! We have also moved another Spitfire from the UK to the USA.
“As it can be appreciated special care was required for such relatively delicate and irreplaceable antique aircraft.”
. It is not only a leader in domestic removals, the company provides home delivery contract services for John Lewis, Wesley Barrell and Everest. Abels operates from three centres in the UK – Brandon in Suffolk, and Huntingdon and Ely in Cambridgeshire – providing national and international home and office removals and , specialist relocation and packing services, and the home delivery services. of new furniture for both retailers and manufacturers.
