Cambridge
With a population of some 108,000 (2001), Cambridge is best-known for one of the world's premier, and oldest established, universities. The oldest university, Peterhouse, was established in 1284.

Cambridge is renowned for research and development. Part of Silicon Fen, the Cambridge Science Park is to the north of the city and includes the St John's and Cambridge innovation centres, the latter leading to the establishment of the Docklands Innovation Centre in London in 1990.

Cambridge has a unique place in the history of football. The first set of rules were drawn up by members of the university in 1848. The Cambridge Rules were played on Parker's Piece, and were very influential in the writing of the 1863 Football Asociation rules. Despite the history, both of Camridge's football teams, Cambridge United and Cambridge City, are non-league.

Pink Floyd and Katrina and the waves were established in Cambridge, and singer Olivia Newton-John was born in the city.
