Belfast
Belfast is the capital city of Northern Ireland, and the 15th largest city in the UK. It was granted city status in 1888 and currently has a population of some 267,000. It is the home of Stormont, the Northern Ireland Assembly
Historically, Belfast has been the centre of the Irish linen industry, and also for ship building - the famous Harland and Wolff shipyard built the ill-fated RMS Titanic. Belfast is also the home town of the world-renowned footballer George Best, who died in 2005.
