About New Zealand

New Zealand is located 900 miles east of Australia and sits between the Tasman Sea and the South Pacific Ocean. Covering an area of 104,454 square miles it boasts just over 10% larger than the area of the UK.

With an average of only 42 inhabitants per square mile and a population of only 4.4 million people, New Zealand provides peaceful tranquillity for those in search of beautiful scenery and quieter nights.

The main North and South Islands are separated by the Cook Strait with the five next largest inhabited islands being Stewart Island, the Chatham Islands, Great Barrier Island, d’Urville Island and Waiheke Island.

Moving to New Zealand unveils a captivating array of landscapes, from majestic glacier-carved mountains to serene lakes, pristine beaches, and rejuvenating thermal springs. The country’s islands are geographically isolated and showcase a remarkable diversity, and unique flora and fauna, that sets them apart from the rest of the world.

New Zealand has a maritime climate that averages temperatures between 16°C in the north to 10°C in the south. Christchurch is the driest city, averaging only 25 inches of rain per year and Auckland the wettest, with 50 inches of rain per year.

The key exports of New Zealand are Wool, food and dairy products, along with wood and paper products. The country has trade deals with Australia, China, Japan and the USA.

Places to consider when moving to New Zealand include Milford Sound, the Abel Tasman National Park and the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

Export Packing

Abels Moving Services advises that Export Packing is a fundamental requirement for all your items and possessions when moving to New Zealand. So what actually is Export Packing, and how do I get advice on what will be required?

Export Packing is a way of protecting items when in transit. It considers external environmental impacts, providing water-resistant resources and additional packaging to preserve the items condition. Whilst also meeting the requirements for shipping goods from the UK to New Zealand.

The level of protection that is needed when moving items for example by road is less stringent but for moving your items travelling thousands of miles in either 20ft Containers or 40ft Containers on their sea journey to New Zealand then they will need additional Export Packing protection.

We take the protection of goods very seriously, your trusted advisor will provide an in-depth overview of the processes for exported goods. Including how your items will be handled and monitored through the moving process to New Zealand.

With Abels Moving Services the highest quality export materials are utilised. Our expert packing guidance provides a plethora of information which will offer resources to ensure your belonging are correctly preserved during your move abroad.

Airfreight

In New Zealand there are 4 main International Airports and 2 other International Airports providing a more limited service. The main International Airports include Auckland International Airport (AKL), Christchurch International Airport (CHC), Hamilton International Airport (HLZ) and Palmerston North International Airport (PMR). The other two smaller International Airports are Dunedin International Airport (DUD) and Wellington International Airport (WLG).

The two largest airports in New Zealand are the International Airport of Auckland which handles over 14 million passengers per year and that of Christchurch which handles over 5.5 million passengers per year.

With sea transit times for shipping your possessions from the UK to New Zealand taking in the order of 11 to 13 weeks, you may consider to send some of your consignment by Airfreight. Items for Airfreight will need to be Professionally Packed (due to security restrictions not permitting owner packed cartons) and are then loaded into heat treated modules of various sizes and then waterproof covered for added protection against the elements.

Please allow 2 weeks transit door to door for airfreight to allow for UK and New Zealand Security and Customs assessments before delivery is permitted to your new home.
